Pulzen: Two Core Components

Pulzen is structured around two major components that work together to deliver a complete productivity and analytics experience for development teams. These core components—Pulzen Web (SaaS Platform) and Pulzen Extractor—are described in detail below, each addressing different needs within the software development lifecycle.

Pulzen Web

Pulzen Web (SaaS Platform) is a comprehensive, cloud-based platform designed to empower development teams and organizations with actionable insights, automation, and collaboration tools. Its main features include:

  • Home: The starting point for every user, featuring onboarding steps and helpful video tutorials. This page guides new users through the essential actions to get started with Pulzen and highlights recent updates and knowledge resources.

  • Extractors: The central hub for managing all data extractors connected to Pulzen. Extractors are responsible for gathering data from various sources (such as GitHub, Jira, Azure DevOps, etc.). Here, you can monitor the status of each extractor, view logs, and analyze key statistics like repositories, deploys, and commits.

  • Conversations: An AI-powered chat interface where users can request metrics, charts, tables, and data insights in natural language. The AI responds with visualizations and analytics based on the data available in Pulzen, making it easy to explore and understand your development process.

  • Schemas: This section displays all users, teams, and repositories imported from the extractors. It allows you to exclude specific data, unify users across different data sources (e.g., matching a Jira user with a GitHub user), and enrich your data with metadata such as costs, management, and sub-management information.

  • Dashboard: A powerful area for visualizing grouped metrics and charts, with filters for date, team, user, and repository. Users can download pre-built dashboards, create new ones, and share dashboards with others, enabling collaborative and customizable reporting.

  • Alerts: Create and manage alerts to stay informed about important events or thresholds in your development process. Alerts can be tailored to your needs and help you react quickly to changes or issues.

  • Reports: Automate the generation and delivery of reports on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Reports can be sent to different users and provide a summary of key activities, metrics, and trends, keeping your team and stakeholders up to date.

In summary, Pulzen Web (SaaS) centralizes all your development data, provides powerful AI-driven analytics, and offers flexible tools for monitoring, reporting, and collaboration—helping your team make smarter, faster, and more informed decisions.

Pulzen is a cloud-based solution that provides ready-to-use dashboards, metrics, and analytics for your development teams. With seamless integrations, customizable reports, and support for DORA and SPACE frameworks. Ideal for organizations seeking a turnkey solution to monitor and improve software development productivity.

Pulzen Extractor

Pulzen Extractor is the powerful data integration engine at the heart of the Pulzen ecosystem. Its main responsibility is to connect with a wide range of development and collaboration platforms, including:

  • GitHub
  • GitHub Copilot
  • GitLab
  • BitBucket
  • Azure DevOps
  • Jira
  • Microsoft Teams

Pulzen Extractor connects to all these sources via secure APIs, retrieving raw data directly from each platform. This raw data includes everything from code commits, pull requests, and deployments, to issues, conversations, and team activities.

Once the data is collected, Pulzen Extractor applies advanced filtering and mapping processes to transform the raw information into a unified, structured format. This ensures that only relevant, high-quality data is stored in the database, ready to be leveraged by Pulzen Web (SaaS) for analytics, dashboards, and AI-driven insights.

Key features and workflow:

  • Multi-source integration: Seamlessly connects to all major development and collaboration tools used by modern teams.
  • Raw data acquisition: Retrieves comprehensive, up-to-date information via official APIs, ensuring data accuracy and security.
  • Data transformation: Filters, maps, and normalizes data from different sources into a consistent schema, making it easy to analyze and visualize.
  • Centralized storage: Stores the processed data in a secure, scalable database, enabling fast access and historical analysis.
  • Powering Pulzen Web: All the insights, dashboards, and reports in Pulzen Web (SaaS) are made possible by the data processed and delivered by Pulzen Extractor.

With Pulzen Extractor, your organization can unify data from disparate systems, break down silos, and unlock a holistic view of your software development lifecycle. This foundation enables advanced analytics, proactive alerts, and smarter decision-making across your entire team.

Architecture & Security: Connection between Pulzen Web and Pulzen Extractor

The Pulzen ecosystem is designed with a robust, scalable, and secure architecture to ensure seamless data flow and protection at every stage. The connection between Pulzen Web (SaaS) and Pulzen Extractor is a key part of this architecture, enabling reliable data integration and analytics.

High-level architecture:

  • Pulzen Web (SaaS) runs on a modern cloud infrastructure (Azure AKS), with a frontend built in Next.js/JS and backend services in NestJS. It leverages Azure MongoDB for data storage and RabbitMQ for messaging and event processing.
  • Pulzen Extractor operates as an independent service (Java 21), responsible for connecting to external data sources, processing raw data, and storing it securely in a dedicated MongoDB instance.
  • Data Sources: Pulzen Extractor connects to platforms like GitHub, GitHub Copilot, GitLab, BitBucket, Azure DevOps, Jira, and Teams via secure APIs, extracting relevant metrics and activity data.

Connection & Security:

  • TLS encryption is used for all communication between services, ensuring data in transit is always protected.
  • OAuth JWT credentials are used for secure, time-limited authentication between Pulzen Web and Pulzen Extractor, ensuring that only authorized services can access and transfer data.
  • Data at rest is protected using AES-256 encryption, providing the highest level of security for stored information.
  • All data in transit between services is encrypted, and sensitive credentials are managed securely.
  • Data Storage: All processed and filtered data is stored in MongoDB, with strict access controls and tenant isolation to guarantee privacy and compliance.
  • Multitenancy: Even though Pulzen is a multitenant platform, each client has completely separate environments and databases, ensuring that information is never mixed or accessible between tenants.
  • No sensitive code or business logic is extracted from source systems; only event metadata and metrics relevant to DORA, DevExp, SPACE frameworks and others, are processed.
  • Bulk and real-time extraction: Data is loaded in bulk via APIs (for initial loads) and in real time using webhooks (for platforms like GitLab and Jira).

This architecture ensures that Pulzen Web always has access to up-to-date, high-quality data for dashboards, analytics, and AI features, while maintaining the highest standards of security and data privacy.
